|COLORADO COPPER SERIES (1998), BY BOB RANKIN|
ACQUIRED FROM THE ARTIST, RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, AUGUST 1998 (COLORADO COPPER 1) AND JUNE 1999 (COLORADO COPPER 2)
MIXED MEDIA (ACRYLIC, GEL MEDIA) ON HAND-PRESSED NEPALESE PAPER
These two works are really heavily layered with copper-pigmented paint... so much so that they both almost look like pieces of really weathered and beaten copper plate. This effect is enhanced by the presence of a few spots of green (the color of copper oxide).
These two works were painted at approximately the same time. As far as I know, Bob has never created any other Copper works. When I acquired the second of the two works, Bob decided to name both works... I had previously referred to Colorado Copper 1 as Untitled.
